Christy: Obstacles in the pursuit of Style

Nobody looks stylish everyday. At least I hope nobody does, because I certainly don't.
That said, I do think that with a little effort I could eliminate a good chunk of the days where
my appearance = death.
This evening while brushing my teeth I came up with the three biggest obstacles to my general stylishness.
Greatest Obstacles in my pursuit of Style
1.My own Laziness
2. My limited budget
3. My mood in the morning as I get dressed

Possible Solutions:(possible resolutions?)
1.
Take the time in the morning to chose my outfits. Make an effort to not settle for the first thing I see in my drawers.
2. Go thrifting more, hunt down sales.
3. I find that if I eat breakfast before I get dressed I'm so much more inspired than if I get dressed before I eat.

It remains to be seen whether I follow through with any of those "solutions". What are the biggest obstacles for you guys in looking stylish?
How do you guys overcome them?

I realize that another, 4th obstacle is lifestyle. I've been working at a day camp this summer where we take the kids to the pool every day, making outfits like the one below the most practical.

My aunt took this picture on her new digital camera in my back yard. It was cute how excited she was to snap photos of everything and everyone.
Thanks for all the comments on my bangs. I've been enjoying them even though the present hot weather is frizzing them a bit.

On a completely different note, my latest shoe longing is for a pair of boat shoes (or dock shoes?)
Like this pair,

or these vans

The only explanation for this longing is the fact that I will be headed to BC and to the Ocean in 9 days!!!
I'm sorry this post is random and I'll try to have a real outfit post up soon but I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on obstacles that prevent you from being your stylish best.
Happy middle of the week to everyone!

Possible Solutions:

Pick an outfit the night before so you don't have to think in the day. (But this backfires on me because I tend to look at the outfit the next day and say 'No way! I am not feeling this at all!')

Day camp sounds so darn fun and your outfit is adorable. Especially the hat!I hope you get the boat shoes- I really want a pair myself but since I am on a shopping ban I will live through you :P

I find it easiest to plan my outfits the night before, lately I've even been writing down what to wear on what day about a week ahead :)

Those vans! I love them!

I love the brown and blue boat shoes! The colors are great! What about if you try to pick your outfit the night before? That way you have ample time to try on things instead of doing it the morning of. I have yet to do this myself but have been meaning to do it :)

I'm kind of in the same mind set... there's days I get up and am just too lazy to put together anything mildly imaginative. Plus with how stressful things have been, I just haven't felt compelled or inspired to do anything other than jeans and a baggy shirt.

However, like Bea said, putting outfits together the night before does work. Lack of sleep last night caused me to lay in bed just thinking of what I'd like to wear for my interview today, and when I got up I got dressed with a purpose!

That hat is too cute for words, by the way. Nothing is better than a good, floppy, straw hat!

My solutions for these obstacles (I face them as well!) are to plan my week's outfits on Sunday or over the weekend when I'm totally relaxed. That way, there's no pressure and I can think clearly!

I like your bangs in this pic! Very nice!

I've found it much easier to plan at least the basics of my outfits the night before. That way i don't have to stare bleary-eyed into my closet 30 min before I'm supposed to be at work! Wouldn't go so far as a week because my mood changes lol

And yeah, if you're working with kiddies every day it's kinda hard to dress fun. Just something that won't matter if it gets ruined!

I love this post! I have some of the same problems too. I also though feel as though I look weird in some of the more trendy outfits, so I revert back to my same everyday plain old clothes.
Love your solutions, I'll have to try some of this stuff out!

I really want some boat shoe as well. :) Blue ones.

I think that choosing my outfits before I fall asleep is the best thing for me. I'm mostly inspired in the evening when I have more time to choose an outfit. On weekends I choose in the morning after a good strong cup of coffee. :)

Love that picture of you.

Laziness and lack of time in the morning definitely inhibit my style! If I'm amazingly organised I plan what I'm going to be wearing during the week the weekend before(!)

Mostly though I have go-to outfits which are stylish and comfy and easy, and I try and make sure most of my wardrobe goes together so I don't have to just have one top which goes with my favourite skirt which happens to be in the wash etc etc...
