Laura: Movie Style

The first movie I watched from my stash was Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. Cute, fun, sweet, slightly saucy...I definetly enjoyed it. :) My only qualm was that it had a very modern feel to it, I can't put my finger on how, but it didn't really feel like the 30's. Oh, and not to mention several good looking actors and some gorg costuming, what could be better? I grabbed a few stills from the movie to perhaps tempt you guys into seeing it if you haven't already. ;)

I saved the best for last. I just can't believe how darling this little cream/striped suit is!! And of course she has it on for hardly any time at all. Despite the modern feel the costumes were thankfully period correct. I do love me some 30's outfits!
So, have you seen this film? If not, do you think you will? I think I'll be doing "movie style" posts quite frequently for a while, at least while I get thru my stack of movies. :D

I sort of watched this film, as in, I tried to watch it but the story and acting just really really got on my nerves! I mainly watched it for the beautiful 30s fashion and decor, which of course is very well done in the film!

You asked on my blog what it's like doing a film degree and that you might be considering it, and if you are interested in fashion and films its a pretty fun degree to do. In my course you talk a lot about the costumes and makeup in the film, the decor, the lighting and stuff like that. At the moment my class is looking at Marie Antoinette and The Virgin Suicides, which is awesome.
Hope this sort of answers your question, let me know if you have any more questions :)

I really enjoyed this movie! I think you can't take it too seriously, and I agree with you that it has a modern feel sometimes. Yet if you watch some of the classic 1930s screwball comedies, they are zany in a similar way.

I think my whole family has watched this movie three or four times. It's good for when you want something light. I left really liking Amy Adams, kind of in love with the guy she goes with, and intensely wishing that I knew a lingerie designer!

Loved Miss Pettigrew. Such a cute movie!

My favorite Hitchcocks have to be Rear Window, To Catch a Theif, The Trouble With Harry and The 39 Steps.

I didn't agree with some of their castings either. Though I do love James McAvoy, so of course I thought he was perfect!
